RCS messaging becoming more widely available

RCS messaging coming to Finland

Corporate communications are becoming more diverse in SmartDialog. The “enhanced SMS” or RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging channel is coming to Finland. RCS messages can now be used on Google phones equipped with Elisa subscriptions in Finland. The offer will be expanded to other Finnish operators in the near future. RCS support is also coming to Apple phones in Finland, according to a press release published by Apple on June 10, 2024.

RCS communications use a branded company profile. This works on the same principle as WhatsApp, where messages are sent to consumers with their own company identity. RCS messaging are more versatile and visual than text messages. Messages can be long and contain images, videos and other data, such as product cards and card carousels.

Explore the features of RCS communication

Messages from all channels can direct consumers to websites where they can ask for opinions, feedback or collect orders. In WhatsApp and RCS communications, recipients can also be offered direct quick replies and action buttons, which make it easy to start comments, contacts, orders or calendar entries.

If a customer cannot receive RCS messages, an SMS message can be used as a backup. In this case, messages that do not reach the recipient as RCS messages can be automatically sent as text messages, if desired, taking into account the limitations of SMS content. After sending an RCS message, the company can also check to whom the RCS message has reached, and easily select the remaining contacts to reach in other ways, such as via SMS or WhatsApp.
