SMS SenderID protection process
Requirements for protecting the sender name
1. First, consider whether your organization needs sender name protection. If the sender name registration is initiated by Traficom, the process must be completed all the way to the operators. If the process has not been completed, the sender name cannot be used in message transmissions after the protection takes effect.
2. The protected sender name must be the company name, auxiliary name or parallel name of the company in the YTJ. The protected sender name can be 3-11 characters long and its allowed characters are 0-9, a-z, A-Z and the space character.
3. Registration of an auxiliary business name can be applied for from the Finnish Patent and Registration Office: https://www.prh.fi/en/kaupparekisteri.html
4. Public entities and associations may register a unique name or identifier as the sender name.In this case, Traficom recommends that you contact us in advance by email: lyhytsanoma.numerot@traficom.fi
Registering the sender name with Traficom
Sender ID protection begins by applying for registration for the sender ID from Traficom: Apply for a short message service SMS Sender ID | Traficom. The organization can apply for registration of the sender ID, or SMS Sender ID, on Traficom’s website itself, or authorize a service provider to apply for registration of the ID.
Once Traficom has processed and approved the registration application, the company will be informed of the approved sender name. Valid SMS Sender IDs can be found at: Registered SMS Sender IDs | Traficom.
Once the registration application is approved, the SMS Sender ID protection will take effect three calendar months after approval. Traficom charges the company €200/year for the SMS Sender ID registration.
Enabling Secure SMS Sender ID
Once the sender name registration is approved, the use of the SMS Sender ID must be enabled in the necessary operator connections. The company must contact its messaging service providers. Arena Interactive acts as a service provider that enables the use of protected sender names.
Arena Interactive will provide the company with the necessary powers of attorney to fill out and sign. At the same time, information will be provided about the confidential short message number starting with 19 that you received from Traficom upon registration.
We deliver the authorizations and order forms related to the use of the protected sender ID to the operators, after which we work with the operators to open and deploy messaging connections related to the SMS Sender ID.
We charge a one-time fee of €200 per protected ID for activating protection and opening operator connections.
SMS Sender ID comes into effect
The protection will take effect three months after the date Traficom has registered the ID. If the protection date falls on a weekend or public holiday, the protection will take effect on the next business day.
After the protection comes into effect, you can only send messages with a protected sender name through service providers you have authorized with a proxy. You can still send messages with another sender name, but these are not covered by the protection if the sender name in question has not been protected.
If the process of enabling a secure sender name has not been completed after registration, sending messages with a secure sender name will be completely blocked by the operators after 3 months.
