Secure SMS messages with Traficom’s new registration regulations
A significant improvement in the secure sending of text messages and the reliability of communication is coming as soon as the first half of 2026. Traficom’s new SMS message registration regulation 28 L/2025 M will enter into force on 4 May 2026.
With Traficom’s new regulation, all SMS messages must be sent via sender IDs registered in advance. If permission has not been sought to use the ID, all such messages will either be blocked or sent to recipients with the “Unknown” sender name from 4 May 2026 and with the “Spam” sender name from 2 November 2026.
This is a very good and clear change for consumers, which strengthens the reliability of text messages as a communication channel.
New registration process in cooperation with operators
Arena Interactive has been working with Traficom, Digital Forum Finland, operators and other authorities to plan the content and implementation of the new regulation. We are very pleased that we can jointly implement such SMS protection for all operators in Finland, which enables secure SMS messages between organizations and consumers.
The transition to and implementation of protected sender IDs will be effortless for our customers. At Arena Interactive, we will manage the registration processes smoothly together with the operators.
Current SMS Sender ID protection will be strengthened and will remain in use
The current protected SMS Sender IDs used by organizations will continue to be a good option for SMS sender verification. SMS Sender ID protection gives the company the exclusive right to use a specific sender name. With the new regulation, the reliability of these IDs will also improve, as all sender information will be subject to authorization and registration alongside SMS Sender ID.
We inform our customers about the implementation schedule
Traficom Regulation 28 L, which was under update, was signed on 15 December 2025, and will enter into force on 4 May 2026. We will contact all our customers at the beginning of 2026, and will inform our customers in more detail about the schedule and the process of implementing permitted SMS sender information, as well as practical details.
